NEW YEAR’S GOALS OR RESOLUTIONS

First, we want to thank you for taking the time to read our very first blog. We encourage anyone visiting our site to leave comments and most importantly, contact anyone of our team members, if you are looking for any kind of guidance or looking for any information pointing you in the right direction.

As we head into the New Year, many find themselves thinking about New Year’s resolutions. A New Year’s resolution is defined as such; A promise that you make to yourself to start doing something good or stop doing something bad on the first day of the year.

It is important to understand that there is nothing wrong with making a goal for yourself, however, those who immediately set these goals or resolutions may set goals that are too large and may quickly become discouraged. If failing to meet such a goal, your self-esteem, personal satisfaction, and self confidence my suffer immensely.

When setting these large goals, it is possible you may become overwhelmed and begin to quit or resign. The Ohio State University (FISHER COLLEGE OF BUSINESS) states; Researchers suggest that only 9% of Americans that make resolutions complete them. In fact, research goes on to show that 23% of people quit their resolution by the end of the first week, and 43% quit by the end of January. The change in behavior remains the same and life continues as before, with the same habits. By doing this, it simply makes you feel bad and you may tell yourself, “I do not have what it takes”. Saying you do not have what it takes could not be further from the truth. The truth is, you can set goals or resolutions for yourself. Make sure you are setting the right goals. That is, goals that are small, realistic, measurable and realistic. Clarify your objectives and ways of attaining them. Simply put, don’t make your goals too large or unrealistic to achieve.

Small realistic goals make it much easier for you to reach. It will influence thinking patterns and strengthen your self-esteem. You can set daily goals, weekly goals, or monthly goals. By doing this, you are less likely to quit and this will lesson the pressure you put on yourself. No matter how small the goal is, once achieved (and you will achiieve it!) your self confidence will soar. Continue to set these goals for yourself. You do not have to constantly set small goals as you may find yourself falling right back into becoming overwhelmed. Set your goals when and how you see fit. It can be anything you choose as long as you are setting goals that will make you happy and move you towards a better life.

To keep it simple, there are 365 days of the year that can be chosen to set new goals. It does not have to be on December 31st. Any day of the year can be YOUR personal New Year.
